Do You Like Poker? So Do We.

Did you know the Stoney Badger Tavern has Poker Tournaments even Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 and 9pm! By signing up at worldtavernpoker.com to obtain an entry form, you will also have a chance to win a seat at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Forty-one seats are given away each year by World Tavern Poker.

World Tavern Poker is an online poker league with over 150,000 registered players and is America’s #1 league. Players earn points and are ranked by playing free Texas Hold ’em poker tournaments in the over 400 hosting taverns around the United States. World Tavern Poker holds its own National Championship and twenty-four of the WSOP seats are awarded to all players at the final table. The final fifteen seats can be won by playing online.

The World Series of Poker was established in 1970 at the  Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. As there was little press coverage, the first few years of tournaments garnered little public attention. CBS Sports televised the WSOP for the first time in 1973 and the event continued to grow from there. In 2004, the Horseshoe Casino was sold off and Harrah’s Entertainment (now Caesars Entertainment) gained the rights to the World Series. The next year, the WSOP was hosted at the RIO All-Suite Casino and Hotel. The World Series continued its growth and over $100 million in prize money was awarded in 2006, making the WSOP the richest sporting event around. Most recently, the World Series expanded the event to casinos outside of Las Vegas, to almost a dozen casinos around the United States, aptly titled the World Series of Poker Circuit.

The 2013 WSOP is coming soon, beginning on May 29th and continuing through July 15th at the RIO All-Suites Casino and Hotel. Anyone age 21 and over can enter; there were over 240,000 participants in 2012! This year the WSOP will have 480 poker tables with tournament prices starting at $75. If you can’t make it to Vegas to check out all the festivities and high roller action, you can follow the events on the official WSOP Facebook page, the WSOP Twitter feed, or by downloading the WSOP Mobile App.

Another way to get in on the action is to visit the casinos on the World Series Circuit.  The closest venues can be found in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Chester, Philadelphia, and Cherokee, North Carolina.  Come join us Monday and Tuesday’s at the Stoney Badger and win yourself a seat for the 2014 World Series of Poker!
