June Shows at the Badger – Great Music, Great Bands

June is shaping up to be a great month for live music here at the Stoney Badger. In the first two weekends of June alone we have seven different acts!

Things kick off tonight, Thursday, June 6th, with Eli Cook performing solo. He is a nationally renowned blues artist who pulls his influences from both classic and modern artists. He is not someone you want to miss! There is no cover for his show and his set starts at 7pm. We have two bands performing Friday night – The Bush League and The Former Champions. Cover will be $7 and music starts at 9pm. The Bush League, is a four member Richmond based blues band. The Former Champions are also from Richmond and call themselves an “electro rock band.” With these two, it promises to be a fun evening!

Finishing out the weekend will be Bob Margolin, playing Saturday, June 8th at 9:30pm. The cover will be $8. Mr. Margolin will be bringing blues back to the Badger. He has had a long and distinguished career, playing with Muddy Waters in the 1970’s. He enjoyed playing smaller shows throughout the 1980’s mixed in with the occasional big venue. In 1989, Mr. Margolin recorded his first solo album followed closely by his second in 1991. Fast-forward over twenty years, with numerous records released and years of non-stop touring, he still plays for his audience as, in his words, “a musician playing for my friends.” Truly a special artist.

The following weekend, you will find Southern Breeze on our stage with no cover on Thursday, June 13th. Southern Breeze has been together since 1980 and plays a music of original and cover music. They pull from a variety of music types so there will definitely be something for everyone. Wide Open Fly be playing Friday, June 14th. Cover will be $5.

Finally on Saturday, June 15th, Funk Punch will be here at 9pm. They are a Roanoke based band performing covers and original music. The band formed in 2011 and they have quickly become a must see jam band. Describing themselves as an “infectious.. bold rock-pop-electro-funk” band, its impossible to not have a great time and maybe get a little dancing in.

As you can see, we have a fantastic line-up over the new couple weeks. It would be a shame to miss any one of these artists so come on down, have a few drinks, and catch a great show!
